The Short Version

  • Coolers: not allowed, of any kind, hard or soft. Leave the cooler in the car.
  • Bags: up to two per person, backpacks no larger than 18 x 18 x 14 inches, clutch or fanny packs no larger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches. Everything is searched at the gate.
  • Food and drinks: pre-packaged, sealed snacks are fine, plus one unopened non-alcoholic drink of 20 ounces or less. Bring an empty insulated cup (64 oz max) to fill up once inside.
  • Leave at home: coolers, glass, drones, tripods and selfie sticks, and any weapon.

Circuit of the Americas sits just southeast of downtown Austin, Texas, and it is the only permanent road course on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule with a full stadium section. NASCAR runs a 17-turn, 2.4-mile configuration of the circuit rather than the full Formula 1 layout, and 2026 marked the track's sixth straight year hosting a Cup Series weekend. The DuraMAX Texas Grand Prix Powered by RelaDyne is typically run in late February or early March, and Tyler Reddick took the checkered flag at the 2026 running.

Circuit of the Americas cooler policy

Coolers of any kind, hard-sided or soft, are not permitted inside the gates at NASCAR at COTA. This is stricter than most oval tracks on the schedule, so plan your food and drink around what fits in your two bags instead of a cooler. There is no exception for small or soft coolers, so leave it at the campsite or in the car.

Circuit of the Americas bag policy

Each fan can bring up to two bags through the gates. Backpacks and similar bags cannot exceed 18 x 18 x 14 inches, and clutch or fanny packs cannot exceed 4.5 x 6.5 inches. All bags are subject to search at the entrance, and items may not be left at the gate, so pack light and expect a quick inspection.

Prohibited items

These items will stop you at the gate, so leave them in the car or at home:

  • Coolers of any kind, and glass or ceramic containers
  • Firearms and weapons, plus knives longer than 3 inches closed or 6 inches open
  • Aerosol cans, other than sunscreen, sun block, hand sanitizer, and bug spray
  • Drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles
  • Selfie sticks, tripods, and monopods
  • Fireworks, dry ice, laser pointers, noise makers, and air horns
  • Frisbees, balloons, beach balls, and other projectiles
  • Skateboards, hoverboards, roller skates, and bicycles
  • Seat cushions with armrests, and animals other than service animals

What you can bring

Cameras, binoculars, scanners, and headsets are all welcome, as are iPads, tablets, and laptops. Seat cushions are fine as long as they have no armrests, and an empty insulated cup up to 64 ounces can be filled at the concession stands once you're inside. Sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and bug spray are allowed in aerosol, gel, or liquid form. Collapsible umbrella strollers and ADA-compliant scooters are permitted throughout, and service animals are welcome on a leash or harness. Collapsible chairs, wagons, and umbrellas are allowed in general admission seating areas, but none of the three are allowed into the fixed grandstand seating.

Grandstands, seating, and the track layout

COTA's main grandstand climbs above Turn 1, at the top of the course's signature uphill start, and gives a wide view down into the esses and across the infield. Additional grandstands line the front stretch and several corners around the 2.4-mile road course. Because this is a road course rather than an oval, sightlines vary a lot by section, so check your ticket's grandstand and row before you go. The map below shows the full circuit layout used for road racing at COTA.

Getting there and race-day tips

NASCAR at COTA weekend runs on fully mobile tickets, there is no Will Call, so download your ticket to your phone ahead of time. Concession stands and merchandise haulers are cashless, though camper showers are cash-only if you're staying in the infield or camping lots. Re-entry is allowed with a mobile ticket, but get a hand stamp on your way out or the gate may turn you away. No outside golf carts are allowed on COTA property at all, even for campers, so plan on walking or using the courtesy shuttles. Handicap parking is available in multiple lots, and courtesy and handicap shuttles run throughout the event for guests who need them. Austin in late winter and early spring can swing from cold mornings to warm afternoons, so dress in layers.

Fan tips from the grandstands

  • Skip the cooler entirely and pack your two bags with sealed snacks instead, since coolers are turned away at the gate
  • Bring an empty insulated cup so you're not stuck paying for a fresh cup every refill at the concession stand
  • Save the tripod and selfie stick for the parking lot, both are banned once you're through the gate
  • Get your hand stamped every time you leave, even for a quick walk, or re-entry can be denied
  • Pack a light jacket, Austin mornings in late February and early March run cold even when afternoons warm up

The bottom line

COTA runs a tighter gate policy than most ovals on the schedule: no coolers at all, two bags capped at 18 inches, and a short list of pre-packaged snacks and one drink for outside food. Track policies change from season to season, so confirm the current rules on the official NASCAR at COTA fan guide before you travel.
