The Magic Mile is one of the friendliest tracks on the Cup schedule for a first-timer. It is a flat 1.058-mile oval in Loudon, New Hampshire, the sight lines are good almost everywhere, and the whole property sits on about 1,200 acres of northern New England hillside. The Cup Series returns for the Dollar Tree 301 on Sunday, August 23, 2026, 301 laps and 318.46 miles on USA and PRN.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway is run by Speedway Motorsports, and its entry rules are specific enough that showing up with the wrong cooler will cost you a walk back to the car. Cooler Policy at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

This is the rule that trips people up most, so read it twice. New Hampshire Motor Speedway allows soft-sided coolers only, and they must be no larger than 14" x 14" x 14" to get into the grandstand area. Hard-sided and foam coolers are on the prohibited list and will not come through a ticket gate.

Inside that cooler, alcohol is allowed but glass is not. That means cans and plastic, no bottles. Bagged ice is also prohibited, and so is dry ice, so plan on freezing a few bottles of water or using reusable ice packs instead of stopping for a bag of cubes on the way in.

A 14-inch cube is a real cooler, not a lunch bag. It will comfortably hold a day's worth of drinks, sandwiches and snacks for one person, which is exactly what the track intends. Every cooler is subject to search on the way in.

Bag Policy at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

The New Hampshire Motor Speedway bag policy is not a strict clear-bag mandate, but clear bags are recommended and they will move you through the security line faster. Here are the size limits the track publishes:

• Clear bags and soft-sided coolers: no larger than 14" x 14" x 14"
• Backpacks: no larger than 18" x 18" x 4"
• Small purses, clutches and fanny packs: no larger than 4" x 6", 6" x 9" or 4.5" x 6.5"

Note how thin that backpack limit is. Eighteen inches tall and wide is generous, but four inches deep is not much. A stuffed hiking daypack will not pass. If you want to carry real volume, the soft cooler is your bag, and a small clear tote covers the rest.

All bags, backpacks, coolers, purses and fanny packs are subject to search, and so are vehicles and RVs. Anything the speedway staff considers unsafe can be refused at the gate even if it is not on the list, and the instruction in that case is simple: take it back to your vehicle.

Prohibited Items at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

This is the full published list for the grandstands. A few of these surprise people every year, especially the umbrella and the collapsible chair.

• Aerosol cans, except sunscreen, sun block, hand sanitizer and bug spray

• Firearms and fireworks

• Illegal substances
• Knives longer than 3" closed or 6" open, and multi-tools with blades over 3"
• Laser pointers, noise makers and air horns
• Obscene or indecent clothing
• Seat cushions containing metal, and stadium seats wider than 20"
• Selfie sticks, tripods and monopods
• Skateboards, hoverboards, roller skates, scooters, segways and similar personal transportation
• Smoking of any kind in the grandstands, including vapes and e-cigarettes
• Umbrellas
• Drones and other unmanned aircraft
• Wagons and tool boxes on wheels

What You Can Bring

The good news is that the permitted list covers most of what makes a race day comfortable:

• Your own food and drink, packed in that soft cooler. Alcohol included, glass excluded.
• A seat cushion, as long as it has no metal in it. Stadium seats are fine if they are under 20" wide, but seat backs with arms are not permitted.
• A camera, as long as the camera and lens together stay under 8" long and the lens itself is under 5".
• A scanner or headset. Loudon is loud, and hearing protection doubles as your feed of the radio traffic. The track itself recommends earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones.
• Sunscreen and bug spray, which are carved out of the aerosol ban.
• A banner, sign or flag, as long as one person can hold it, it stays within 36" x 60", and it does not block anybody's view.

Grandstands, Seating and the Layout

New Hampshire is a 1.058-mile oval with very little banking, 2 to 7 degrees in the corners and about 1 degree on the straights. That flat profile is why the racing here looks more like a short track than a mile oval, and it is why the frontstretch grandstand gives you a genuine view of the whole lap. Capacity sits around 44,000, so there is no truly bad seat.

Grandstand seating is entirely smoke-free, tobacco, vape and e-cigarettes included. There are designated smoking areas underneath the grandstands, set away from the concession stands. Trams and golf cart shuttles run to and from the grandstand areas, which matters more than you would think on a property this size.

Re-entry is allowed. Get a hand stamp at an exit gate before you leave, and you can come back in. You will go through the security checkpoint again on the way, so the same bag and cooler rules apply the second time.

Getting There and Race-Day Tips

The speedway is at 1122 North New Hampshire Route 106 in Loudon, about 15 minutes from Concord. Route 106 becomes the choke point on Cup Sunday, so the earlier you leave, the less of your morning you spend parked on a two-lane road.

The track's own best tip is the simplest one: take a photo of your parking lot sign near the Gil Rogers Highway when you park. The property runs about 1,200 acres, the lots look identical in the dark, and a photo beats wandering after 301 laps.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway is cashless. Credit and debit cards are accepted at ticket booths, concession stands and merchandise trailers, so you do not need to hunt for an ATM. Camping and the Infield

Camping at Loudon has its own rulebook. To buy camping for NASCAR weekend you also have to buy a minimum of two Sunday tickets. All RVs and campers must be fully self-contained with bathroom and water facilities on board, because the speedway has no hookups and no dumping facilities. Dumping gray water or waste on speedway property is strictly prohibited and the track treats it as an arrestable offense.

Tent camping runs only during NASCAR Cup week and only in the designated S7 lot. Generators have to stay under 75 decibels at all times with no exceptions. Quiet hours are 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. in the family and handicap lots and midnight to 7 a.m. in the general lot. Small cooking fires are permitted only when the Forest Fire Warden says conditions are safe, clean wood only, fully extinguished with water before you leave it.

Pets are allowed in the camping areas on a leash, but not in the grandstand area. Every vehicle, including tow vehicles, needs its own corresponding pass.

Fan Tips

A few things regulars at the Magic Mile have figured out:

• Freeze half your drinks. Bagged ice is banned, so frozen bottles are your ice and your afternoon water at the same time.
• Pack for two seasons. Late August in central New Hampshire can be 85 and blazing or 60 and raw. Umbrellas are banned, so a packable rain jacket or poncho is the move.
• Bring real hearing protection. A flat mile with a full Cup field is relentless. Earplugs at minimum, a scanner headset if you want to follow the strategy.
• Sturdy shoes. Between the lots, the midway and the grandstand stairs, you will walk more than you plan to.
• Measure your cooler at home. A tape measure in your garage is cheaper than a walk back to the parking lot.
