Everything a fan needs before heading to Lebanon, Tennessee for the Cracker Barrel 400 weekend, checked against the track's own published rules.

Nashville Superspeedway sits about 30 miles east of Broadway in Lebanon, Tennessee. It is a 1.33-mile D-shaped oval paved entirely in concrete, the largest all-concrete venue NASCAR races on, with 14 degrees of banking in the corners and permanent seating for roughly 25,000 fans.

It is also one of the strictest tracks on the schedule about what you can carry through the gate. If you have packed a small soft cooler out of habit at Talladega or Bristol, read the next section carefully.

The Short Version

Coolers: not allowed. Coolers of any size are on the prohibited list for the grandstands.
Bags: one clear bag or clear backpack no larger than 18x18x14 inches, plus one clutch bag or fanny pack no larger than 4.5x6.5 inches.
Food and drink: outside food is not permitted. You may bring one unopened or empty water bottle, and insulated cups are allowed.

Cooler Policy at Nashville Superspeedway

This is the single biggest thing to know before you leave the house: Nashville Superspeedway does not allow coolers into the grandstands. There is no permitted size, no soft-sided exception, and no small personal cooler allowance. Coolers appear on the track's prohibited items list with no qualifier attached.

That puts Nashville in a small group of Cup venues. Most tracks allow a soft cooler in the 6x6x12 inch range for your own drinks. Nashville routes everything through the clear bag rule instead.

Two workarounds the track does permit: cold packs are listed among the items you may carry in your clear bag, and insulated cups are allowed, so a good tumbler will hold a cold drink far longer than a plastic bottle. Loose ice is specifically called out as not permitted.

For the tailgate crowd, coolers are fine in the parking and tailgate areas. The track's own tailgating guidance lists coolers among the accessories to pack up before you head to the grandstands. The restriction is about what crosses the admission gate, not what sits at your parking spot.

Bag Policy at Nashville Superspeedway

Nashville runs a clear bag policy, and bag searches are conducted at every admission gate. What you are allowed to carry in:

One clear bag or clear backpack, no larger than 18x18x14 inches. This is the bag for your headsets, scanners, cameras, binoculars and cold packs.
One clutch bag or fanny pack, no larger than 4.5x6.5 inches. This one does not have to be clear.
One unopened or empty water bottle. Insulated cups are permitted. No other outside beverages are allowed.

The 18x18x14 allowance is generous by NASCAR standards, so a full-size clear backpack will pass. It has to be genuinely clear, and the track asks you to arrive with every pocket already open so the search moves quickly. Pack deliberately, because the track states plainly that no items may be left at the gate. If something does not clear, your only option is a walk back to the car.

Prohibited Items at Nashville Superspeedway

The following are not permitted through the grandstand gates:

Alcohol brought through entry gates
Coolers
Outside food
Glass containers
Umbrellas
Chairs, and seat cushions wider than 20 inches or with arms
Strollers, wagons and carts
Cameras with a detachable lens over 5 inches, selfie sticks, tripods and video cameras
Bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, hoverboards, golf carts, scooters, Segways and mopeds
Drones and laser pointers or laser lights
Fireworks, balloons, beach balls, noisemakers and horns
Flag poles, inflatables, projectile objects and items that obstruct views
Confederate flags and Confederate clothing
Pets, other than service animals
Weapons
Smoking in the grandstands and suites, including e-cigarettes and vapor cigarettes

The track reserves the right to add anything it deems a safety or health risk to that list, and to search all persons and items entering the facility.

What You Can Bring In

Working from the allowed list, here is the race-day clear bag: a scanner or headset, binoculars, a camera with a lens under 5 inches, cold packs, sunscreen, a hat, ear protection, a phone charger and a payment card. Add the insulated cup and the unopened or empty water bottle and that is the full kit.

Seat cushions are worth calling out because the rule is a size rule, not a ban. A cushion is fine as long as it is 20 inches wide or narrower and has no arms. On aluminum seating over a 400-mile race, it earns its space in the bag.

Grandstands, Seating and Track Layout

The frontstretch grandstand runs along the D-shaped straightaway with the tower at its center, plus auxiliary grandstands for NASCAR weekend. Because the oval is only 1.33 miles around and the seating sits on one side, you can follow the whole lap from nearly any seat, which is not true at the mile-and-a-half tracks.

A few rules that catch people out. Smoking is not permitted in the grandstands or tower, but it is allowed at ground level in open air. All tickets are mobile only through the Nashville Superspeedway app or your account, so charge your phone before you leave the campground. Junior tickets for children 12 and under are free for Friday and Saturday races and $10 for Sunday, seated in rows 1 through 19 of the main grandstands and in the auxiliary grandstands.

For accessible seating, ADA tickets are sold in rows 1, 35 and 69 subject to availability, and the tower elevator serves upper grandstand wheelchair seating for a guest and one companion. Free transportation around the facility is available for fans who need assistance. The track does not provide or rent wheelchairs or ECVs, so bring your own.

Getting There, Parking and Camping

The track is at 400 Victory Lane Drive in Lebanon, Tennessee, an easy run east of Nashville on I-40. Daily parking is free, a genuine rarity on this schedule, with reserved parking closer to the grandstands sold separately. ADA parking sits near the main gates first-come, first-served, and under Tennessee law the person the placard or plate is issued to must be in the vehicle.

Tailgating runs on a rule the track states as "if it fits, it's allowed." Extra-wide spaces are sold for the weekend and you can bring whatever fits in your vehicle, including portable grills and shade tents. You cannot add trailers or other extensions to claim more room, set ground fires, or use metal flag poles, and all flags must stay 100 feet clear of power and telephone lines.

Camping is a real part of this event, with infield options in turns 1, 2 and 3, trackside Honky Tonk camping, and the Broadway, Music Row, Bluff, Fiddler Flats and Glade areas. RV check-in opens the Wednesday of race week at 8 a.m. Quiet hours run midnight to 6 a.m. Generators may run at all hours if properly ventilated, kept quiet, and exhausting away from neighboring sites. RVs must be self-contained, and each reserved space is 25 by 50 feet for one RV and one tow vehicle. Sleeping tents are not permitted in the RV areas, though one storage or gathering tent that fits your space is allowed. Free showers are in Glade 3 and Fiddler Flats, and tram shuttles run 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Fan Tips

Bring a card, not cash. Every concession transaction is debit or credit. There is no cash lane.
Plan for sun, not shade. Umbrellas are prohibited and the grandstand is open. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen all fit in the clear bag.
Buy the insulated cup before you go. With no cooler allowed, a good tumbler is the closest thing to one.
Bring a scanner or headset. A 1.33-mile concrete oval is loud and the field comes around fast. Radio traffic is how you follow it.
