Daytona International Speedway Fan Guide: Cooler Policy, Bag Rules and What to Bring (2026)
Part of the Happy Hour Racing Track Fan Guide series - the spectator rules and what to pack before race day.

The Short Version
- Coolers: one soft-sided cooler up to 14 x 14 x 14 inches. No hard coolers.
- Bags: backpacks, purses, diaper and camera bags up to 18 x 18 x 14 inches. Every bag is searched, including on re-entry.
- Food and drinks: you can bring your own into the grandstands (not into hospitality areas).
- Leave at home: weapons, umbrellas, drones, glass, fireworks, and any hard cooler.
Daytona cooler policy
Daytona International Speedway allows one soft-sided cooler per person, as long as it does not exceed 14 x 14 x 14 inches. Hard-sided coolers are not permitted. There is no rule against bringing your own ice, food, water, or canned and plastic-bottled drinks inside that soft cooler, so most fans pack a lunch and a day's worth of drinks and never leave their seats. Glass containers are prohibited anywhere on property, so decant anything glass before you arrive.
Daytona bag policy
Bags are welcome, within limits. Backpacks, diaper bags, clutch bags, purses, camera bags, and fanny packs are all allowed as long as they do not exceed 18 x 18 x 14 inches. Daytona does not run a clear-bag-only policy the way some stadiums do, so a normal backpack is fine. Every bag is searched at the gate, and searched again each time you re-enter, so pack in a way that is easy to open and repack.
Prohibited items
Leave these at home or in the car, because they will stop you at the gate:
- Weapons, firearms, and knives of any kind, including pocket knives, plus anything restricted by local, state, or federal law
- Fireworks, laser pointers, noise makers, and air horns
- Umbrellas, flag poles, brooms, or any item of similar description
- Hoverboards, skateboards, roller skates, and bicycles
- Drones and any other unmanned aerial vehicle
- Hard-sided coolers and glass containers
What you can bring
The good news is that a race day at Daytona is built for fans who come prepared. Along with your soft cooler and bag, you can bring your own food and beverages, a seat cushion, binoculars, a camera, sunscreen, and a scanner or headset to follow the radio chatter. Families are covered too: strollers are allowed, and there is designated stroller parking throughout the grandstands on a first come, first served basis.

Grandstands, seating, and the track layout
Daytona is a 2.5-mile tri-oval with 31 degrees of banking in the corners, and the frontstretch grandstands tower over the start-finish line. The seating bowl is large, so check your section and gate on your ticket before you arrive and give yourself time to walk. The track map below shows the oval, the infield road course, and Lake Lloyd in the middle of it all.
Getting there and race-day tips
Daytona is a cashless venue, so bring a card or a phone wallet rather than counting on cash. Gates open well before the green flag, and getting in early beats the lines and the heat. Florida sun is no joke, so a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water go a long way, and ear protection makes the day more comfortable next to 40 Cup cars. If you need to step out, remember every re-entry means another bag search. For anything specific, Guest Services runs from 6 a.m. to midnight daily at 386-681-4185.
Fan tips from the grandstands
- Pack a soft cooler with water, a couple of drinks, and a real lunch so you never miss a lap
- Bring ear protection - foam plugs at a minimum, headphones if you have them
- Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses; the frontstretch bakes in the afternoon
- A portable charger, since you will be scanning tickets, maps, and photos all day
- Go cashless and keep your bag easy to open for the gate search
The bottom line
Daytona makes it easy to do a race weekend right: a soft cooler up to 14 inches, a normal bag up to 18 inches, your own food and drinks, and a short list of common-sense items to leave behind. Track policies do change from season to season, so always confirm the current rules on the official Daytona International Speedway fan guide before you travel.
