The Short Version

  • Best value: Junior Johnson Grandstand, sections F through K, Row 10 or higher. Backed seats, the start-finish line and pit road in front of you. That is our opinion, not an official ranking.
  • Skip: the bottom three or four rows anywhere. On a 0.625-mile bullring you are looking through catchfence wire at cars you never see coming.
  • Shade: none. Neither grandstand has a roof, and umbrellas are banned in the stands. The covered concourse is the only shelter.

Seating Chart and Track Layout

North Wilkesboro is refreshingly simple. There are two grandstands and that is it. The Junior Johnson Grandstand runs the length of the frontstretch. The Benny Parsons Grandstand picks up where the frontstretch ends and sweeps around Turns 1 and 2. Nothing else has seats.

The oval is 0.625 miles of asphalt, 14 degrees of banking in the corners and 3 on the straights, and famously lopsided: the frontstretch runs downhill, the backstretch climbs back up.

Best Seats at North Wilkesboro Speedway

Junior Johnson Grandstand (frontstretch). Sections run A1 at the Turn 4 end through P at Turn 1, start-finish between H and I, Rows 1 at the fence to 18 at the back. These are individual seats with backs, not benches, which matters on a 400-lap night.

Our pick is F through K, Row 10 or higher: the stripe, the flag stand, pit stops 40 feet away, and enough height to track cars through 3 and 4 as they come downhill at you. A1 through D sit at the Turn 4 end, good for corner exit but a long look to the line. M through P sit at Turn 1, the best seats in the house for watching somebody get crossed up on entry.

Benny Parsons Grandstand (Turns 1 and 2). The corner stand, and the honest answer for anyone who cares more about racing than ceremony. Sections run AA at Turn 1 to NN at Turn 2, and the rows climb to 30, so the top of this stand is the highest public seat at the track and you see the entire oval at once. The trade is aluminum benches, and 30 rows is a real climb.

There is one video board, on a pole in the infield. It reads cleanly from the frontstretch. From the Turn 2 end of the Benny Parsons Grandstand you are looking at it over your shoulder.

General Admission: What You Actually Get

Here is the part nobody says plainly. For NASCAR weekend there is no open general-admission grandstand. Every seat is reserved by section, row and number, and reserved seating, camping and advance parking sold out for a fourth straight year ahead of the 2026 Cup race.

Beyond the seat, your ticket covers the concourse and the Fan Zone, and a weekend package adds grandstand access to every practice and qualifying session. General admission does exist here, but only at the track's own short-track shows: the October trackside camping package includes four general admission tickets per site.

Seating Capacity and How the Sections Are Numbered

The track does not publish an official capacity. The figure most widely cited since the 2023 revival is about 19,800 seats. Treat it as a reference point, since temporary seating has come and gone across the comeback years.

Single letters are the frontstretch, double letters are the corners:

  • Junior Johnson Grandstand: A1, then A through P, Turn 4 end to Turn 1 end. Rows 1 to 18, Row 1 at the fence.
  • Benny Parsons Grandstand: AA through NN, Turn 1 to Turn 2. Rows 1 to 30.
  • Suites 1 to 7 sit behind the frontstretch. Gate 1 serves the Turn 4 end, Gate 3 the far end of the corner stand.

Shade, Sun and Weather

Neither grandstand has a roof, so shade is not something you can buy. What helps is the geometry. The frontstretch runs down the west side of the property, so the Junior Johnson Grandstand faces east and the afternoon sun sits behind you. No glare in your eyes, but the back of your neck takes it all day.

The Benny Parsons Grandstand wraps the south end facing north, so the sun stays behind you or over your left shoulder, edging toward your sightline in the far Turn 2 sections late in the day. Under the lights none of it matters, so check your start time. Umbrellas are banned in the stands, so a hat and sunscreen are the plan. And this is the Blue Ridge foothills: All-Star weekend in 2024 took roughly four inches of rain in two hours.

Accessible Seating

Accessible seating is not laid out publicly here, so it has to be arranged rather than clicked. Call the speedway at 336-844-4735 when you buy and say how many companion seats you need. Wheelchair-accessible parking is in Lot 4A, limited and requiring a state-issued ADA placard, at 3337 Fishing Creek Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. If stairs are a factor, ask for low rows in the Junior Johnson Grandstand: the corner stand climbs to Row 30 with no elevator.

Common questions about seating at North Wilkesboro Speedway

What are the best seats at North Wilkesboro Speedway?

Our pick is the Junior Johnson Grandstand, sections F through K, Row 10 or higher, for backed seats and the start-finish line. For pure racing, the upper rows of the Benny Parsons Grandstand show you the whole oval. That is opinion, not an official rating.

What does the North Wilkesboro Speedway seating chart look like?

Two grandstands. Junior Johnson runs the frontstretch in sections A1 and A through P, start-finish between H and I. Benny Parsons wraps Turns 1 and 2 in sections AA through NN. There is no backstretch grandstand and no infield seating.

What is the seating capacity at North Wilkesboro Speedway?

About 19,800 seats is the figure most commonly cited since the track's 2023 return. North Wilkesboro Speedway does not publish an official capacity on its own website, and temporary seating has shifted the total between years.

Where is the shade at North Wilkesboro Speedway?

There is none in the seats, because neither grandstand has a roof. The only shaded area is the covered concourse walkway behind the Junior Johnson Grandstand. Umbrellas are prohibited in the grandstands and suites, so bring a hat and sunscreen.

What do you get with general admission at North Wilkesboro Speedway?

There is no open general-admission grandstand for NASCAR weekend. Every Cup weekend seat is reserved by section, row and number, and it has sold out four years running. General admission tickets are used at the track's own short-track events.

Are the seats at North Wilkesboro Speedway backed or bleachers?

Both. The Junior Johnson Grandstand on the frontstretch has individual seats with backs. The Benny Parsons Grandstand through Turns 1 and 2 is aluminum bench seating, so bring a cushion. Stadium seats with armrests are on the prohibited items list.

Where is accessible seating at North Wilkesboro Speedway?

It is arranged through the speedway rather than listed publicly, so call 336-844-4735 when you buy. Wheelchair-accessible parking is in Lot 4A at 3337 Fishing Creek Road and needs a state-issued ADA placard. Ask for low rows if stairs are a factor.

The Bottom Line

North Wilkesboro is small enough that there is no bad half of the track, only bad rows. Get above Row 10 and you see the whole race from anywhere. Below that, the fence wins. Want comfort and the stripe, sit around H and I. Want to watch cars actually pass, climb the Benny Parsons Grandstand and take the bench.

Verify before you buy. Section names, row counts and what is sold as general admission change season to season. Confirm on the official North Wilkesboro Speedway facility maps page and the track's ticket page before you spend money. Our North Wilkesboro Speedway Fan Guide covers the cooler and bag policy and everything else you can carry in.
