Felix Rosenqvist Stats: 2 Wins and the Closest Indy 500 Ever

Welcome to the Happy Hour Racing IndyCar Driver Spotlight - where we pull one driver into the garage, look under the hood at their career, and tell you what makes them tick. This week: the number 60.

The Short Version

Felix Rosenqvist stats do not look like the stats of a driver who just won the biggest race in America. Two career IndyCar wins. Eight poles. No championship. What the numbers hide is that one of those two wins is the 2026 Indianapolis 500, and he took it by 0.0233 seconds, the closest finish in the 110-year history of the race. The Swede spent three seasons without a win and nearly ran out of rides. Then he beat David Malukas to the yard of bricks by about half a car length.

From Värnamo to Macau

Felix Rosenqvist was born on November 7, 1991, in Värnamo, a town of about 20,000 people in southern Sweden. He now lives in Carmel, Indiana, which tells you how far the job has taken him.

His junior career was one of the best of his generation, and almost nobody in America noticed. He won the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2015. He won the Macau Grand Prix in 2014 and again in 2015, beating a rookie named Charles Leclerc in the second one. With that sweep he became the first driver to win all three of the big Formula 3 prizes: Macau, the Pau Grand Prix, and the Masters of Formula 3.

What he did not get was a Formula 1 seat. He went to Formula E with Mahindra instead, and won the Berlin ePrix in June 2017 for the first victory of his career and the first in his team's history. He scored three wins, six poles, and seven podiums over three Formula E seasons before IndyCar came calling.

Ganassi, One Win, and Three Years in the Cold

Chip Ganassi Racing put him in the No. 10 car for 2019. He was named Rookie of the Year and finished sixth in the standings, which is a strong opening season by any measure. His first IndyCar win came the next July at Road America, where he chased down Pato O'Ward, passed him with two laps to go, and won by 2.8699 seconds.

Then it stopped. Rosenqvist moved to Arrow McLaren for 2021 and went three full seasons without a victory. He kept qualifying near the front and picked up poles in 2022 and 2023, but the wins never came. That stretch is what shapes his career numbers, and by the end of 2023 the question around him was whether he would keep a full-time seat at all.

Meyer Shank Racing gave him the No. 60 for 2024. It was a smaller operation with exactly one IndyCar win to its name, Helio Castroneves at the 2021 Indianapolis 500. Rosenqvist gave the team its first ever IndyCar pole at Long Beach that year, then finished sixth in the 2025 standings. The speed was back. The win still was not.

The Last Lap That Changed Everything

May 24, 2026. The 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500. The race was chaos in the best way. Light rain brought a red flag on lap 105. A heavy crash for Caio Collet in Turn 2 on lap 192 brought another. The final tally was 70 lead changes, a race record that broke the old mark of 68 set in 2013.

A caution on lap 197 set up the finish. On the last lap Malukas led into Turn 1 in the No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet. Rosenqvist stayed with him, rode the high line up against the concrete coming off Turn 4, and came out in front by roughly half a car length in front of a capacity crowd. The official margin was 0.0233 seconds. The previous closest finish was 0.043 seconds, when Al Unser Jr. held off Scott Goodyear in 1992.

He became the third Swedish driver to win the race, after Kenny Bräck in 1999 and Marcus Ericsson in 2022. He also collected the largest payout in the event's history, $4.34 million out of a record purse of $30,906,400. The old winner's record was Josef Newgarden's $4.288 million in 2024.

The personal timing was the part that got him. His wife Emille had given birth to their first child, a daughter named Stella, on May 4, three weeks before the race. "This whole month, becoming a dad and winning the '500'," he said afterward. "It's just unreal."

What the Rest of 2026 Looked Like

Outside of Indianapolis, the season was solid without being spectacular. Rosenqvist finished ninth in the final standings on 412 points with one win, three podiums, and five top-five finishes across 18 races. He took two poles, at Long Beach and at Portland.

That is worth sitting with. A driver can win the Indianapolis 500 and still finish ninth in a championship that Alex Palou took with 631 points. IndyCar rewards consistency across road courses, street circuits, and ovals, and Rosenqvist's year was a spike rather than a straight line.

Where He Goes Next

Rosenqvist announced in June that he would leave Meyer Shank Racing at the end of the season. For 2027 he returns to Arrow McLaren, the team he left after 2023, this time alongside Pato O'Ward and Scott Dixon. Stronger car, deeper lineup, and the clearest signal yet that the paddock now reads him as a race winner rather than a fast qualifier who cannot close.

Felix Rosenqvist has two IndyCar wins in 131 starts, and one of them is the closest Indianapolis 500 ever run. Careers are not measured in totals alone. Sometimes they are measured in 0.0233 seconds.
