The Short Version

The bag policy at Yas Marina Circuit
Start here, because the Yas Marina Circuit bag policy is the one rule the organisers do not reduce to a number. There is no clear-bag requirement and no published centimetre limit. What the official prohibited list actually bans is large backpacks and any large article that cannot be placed under a seat, and the terms of entry give staff the right to inspect and refuse any bag at the gate.
In practice that means one small bag per person. A crossbody, a small tote or a slim daypack that tucks under a grandstand seat will clear security. A full-size hiking pack, a beach bag or a camera bag with a long lens in it is where fans get stopped. There is also no bag check or cloakroom at the circuit, so anything turned away has to go back to your car or your hotel. If your bag is a borderline call, message the circuit before you travel rather than finding out at the turnstile.
Coolers, food and drink at Yas Marina Circuit
There is no cooler size to memorise, because the Yas Marina Circuit cooler policy is a flat no. The official prohibited list bans cooler boxes, hard or soft, and picnic hampers outright, and the terms of entry repeat the ban on cooler boxes, picnic hampers, bottles, flasks and other food or beverage containers.
Outside food and drink are gone with them. The organisers say plainly that ticket holders cannot bring their own food and drinks into the venue. Baby food is permitted, and if you are on a controlled diet for medical reasons you can carry food in with a prescription or a doctor's letter. Alcohol brought from outside is banned, though it is sold in designated areas inside for anyone over 21 with photo ID.
The exception worth planning around is water. The list bans bottles, cans, thermos flasks and beverage containers of any kind except refillable water containers. Bring an empty refillable bottle, fill it inside, and you have solved the most expensive part of a seven-hour day in the Gulf sun.
What is prohibited at Yas Marina Circuit
Food and drink: alcohol, all outside food except baby food and medically required food with documentation, and bottles, cans, thermos flasks and beverage containers of any kind other than refillable water containers. Cooler boxes, hard or soft, and picnic hampers.
Comfort items: umbrellas, unless you buy one inside the venue. Chairs, stools and other seating devices. Large backpacks and any large article that cannot be placed under a seat.
Camera and tech: video cameras and video-capable devices including GoPro or similar, plus any camera whose body and lens together exceed 30 cm. Drones and any similar aircraft. A phone or a normal personal camera is fine.
Safety and security: firearms, knives and weapons of any kind, fireworks, flares and laser lights, musical instruments, loudhailers, air horns and other sound-amplifying devices, rollerblades, skateboards, hoverboards, bicycles and scooters, and animals other than service animals for guests with disabilities.
Two rules deserve their own line. Umbrellas are the big one, because a 5 PM start means the first two hours are in direct sun and your instinct will be to bring shade. You cannot. A brimmed hat is the only shade you are allowed to carry in. Flags are welcome, with limits: the handle cannot exceed 1 metre, and nothing carrying profanity or a message the organisers consider offensive gets in. The general terms of entry are stricter than the event list on flags and a few other items, and staff have the final call, so treat the event list as the best case and pack accordingly.
December weather and how to actually pack for it
December is Abu Dhabi's mild stretch, which is the only reason a Gulf circuit can host a Grand Prix at all. Daytime highs typically sit in the mid-20s Celsius, somewhere in the mid-to-high 70s Fahrenheit, and the humidity coming off the water keeps it feeling warmer than the number suggests. Rain is rare enough that it is not worth planning for.
The thing that catches people out is the drop. This is a twilight race: lights out at 5:00 PM local, sunset under an hour later, and the last half of the race run under the floodlights. You will bake for the first stint and then sit in a breeze off the marina for the second. A light layer you can stuff in your one small bag is the single best thing you can pack, along with sunscreen and a brimmed hat, since the umbrella is staying at the hotel. The circuit's own terms of entry tell you the same thing: take care of your sun protection and hydration, wear appropriate footwear and clothing, and consider ear protection.

Getting in and getting around Yas Island
Everything at this event runs through the Abu Dhabi GP app. Your race ticket, your concert entry, your upgrades and the circuit wayfinding map all live there, so charge your phone and bring a battery pack. Your race ticket does not get you into the after-race concerts on its own, but the concert entry appears in the app under My Tickets on the days your ticket covers.
If you drive, Yas Mall is the parking most fans use, with shuttle buses to the circuit that are fitted with ramps for wheelchair users. Free circular shuttles also run around Yas Island through the weekend, and the app shows your nearest stop. Taxis and the hailing apps work fine for the late run back after the concerts.
Accessibility is handled better here than at most circuits. The Main and North Grandstands are the recommended accessible areas and one companion ticket is free when you book there. The West and East Gates run transport to the grandstands for wheelchair users and mobility-impaired guests, and the AskYAS information points inside can arrange the mobility transport service. The circuit does not keep loan wheelchairs, so bring your own. Several areas, including Abu Dhabi Hill, the West and South Grandstands and the Marina Grandstand, are stairs-only.
The circuit itself
Yas Marina Circuit is 5.281 km of track with 16 turns, and the race runs 58 laps for 306.188 km. It opened in 2009, holds more than 60,000 fans, and 2026 is the 18th running of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen share the record for most wins here with five each, and Red Bull leads the teams with eight. The lap record is Kevin Magnussen's 1:25.637 from 2024. Five world championships have been settled at this circuit, the most recent last December, when Verstappen won the race and Lando Norris finished third to take his first title by two points.
