The inaugural NASCAR Cup Series points-paying race in Mexico City, the Viva Mexico 250, saw Shane van Gisbergen deliver a masterclass in road course racing. The New Zealander, in his first full-time Cup Series season, proved why he's a force to be reckoned with on circuits with left and right turns. Van Gisbergen, driving the No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, claimed pole position and led a commanding 60 of the 100 laps, including the final 32. His winning margin of 16.567 seconds over second-place Christopher Bell was the largest in the Cup Series since 2009 – a truly dominant performance that punched his ticket into the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs!
Christopher Bell, starting from 31st, showcased incredible resilience to climb through the field and secure a strong second-place finish for Joe Gibbs Racing. Chase Elliott, in the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, rounded out the podium, further demonstrating his road course prowess.
