The Short Version

The Bank of America 400 runs Sunday, October 11 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with coverage starting at 3:00 p.m. ET on USA. It is 267 laps and 400.5 miles on the 1.5-mile quad-oval, and it is the first time NASCAR's postseason has visited the Charlotte oval since 2017 after an eight-year run on the Roval. This is race six of the ten-race Chase, and Kyle Larson arrives leading the standings by 40 points with the best five-race playoff start since the format began in 2004. If you came here looking for Bank of America 400 picks 2026, or just want to know who wins the Bank of America 400 2026, that is where the data points.

My Pick to Win

Kyle Larson - No. 5, Hendrick Motorsports

Finishes of 5-1-2-1-2 in his last five starts, with two wins already on intermediate ovals this fall.

The Track: 1.5 Miles, 24 Degrees, and a Worn Surface

Charlotte is a quad-oval, which means the frontstretch bends out and back in rather than running straight. The corners are banked at 24 degrees and the straights at just five, so almost all of the grip comes from the turns themselves.

The oval return was a fan ask. Charlotte announced the move back for The Chase in February:

The surface is the real story. Charlotte's asphalt is old and abrasive, and Ryan Blaney described it this week as a really worn racetrack. Worn asphalt chews tires, and chewed tires mean lap times fall off hard over a run. That rewards drivers who can nurse a set for 40 laps instead of using it up in ten.

One thing is not changing: Charlotte keeps the intermediate rules package. The 750-horsepower bump NASCAR added for 2026 applies only to tracks under 1.5 miles, and Charlotte measures exactly 1.5. So the cars run 670 horsepower with the taller four-inch rear spoiler, and Goodyear brings the same intermediate tire used at Las Vegas, Kansas, Texas, and Darlington this year. Fewer unknowns than the Roval ever offered.

Past Winners: Nine Different Names in Ten Races

Because the fall date moved to the Roval in 2018, almost every recent Cup race on this oval has been the Coca-Cola 600 in May. Across the last ten races on this configuration there are nine different winners, with Martin Truex Jr. the only repeat. Daniel Suarez is the defending winner here, taking the rain-shortened 2026 Coca-Cola 600 in the No. 7 Spire Chevrolet.

Historically the fall Charlotte race belongs to Jimmie Johnson, who won it four times, and to Hendrick Motorsports, which has nine wins in the event. The Cup qualifying record still belongs to Kurt Busch at 198.771 mph, set in 2014 and unbeaten for twelve years.

Here is how Larson himself has run on this oval. It is not a clean sheet, and that is worth seeing before you judge the pick.

Year Start Finish Laps Led
2026 15 5 14
2025 2 37 0
2023 12 30 0
2022 36 9 51
2021 1 1 327

All five are Coca-Cola 600 starts. Larson did not take the green in 2024 because the Indianapolis 500 rain delay kept him from reaching Charlotte in time. 2026 qualifying was rained out and the lineup was set by NASCAR's competition formula.

The Numbers Heading In

Larson leads the Chase with 2,318 points, 40 clear of Denny Hamlin, with Christopher Bell third at 55 back and Chase Briscoe sixth after winning last week at Las Vegas. Under the 2026 format there are no eliminations, so all sixteen playoff drivers carry their points to Homestead. Nobody is racing a cutoff line Sunday, which usually means fewer defensive calls and more drivers actually going for the win.

My Pick to Win: Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson 2026 track type report card showing average finish by track type
Larson's 2026 season broken out by track type. The intermediate column is the one that matters Sunday.

The case for Larson is current form, not Charlotte history. His last five results read 5th at Darlington, a win at Gateway, 2nd at Bristol, a win at Kansas, and 2nd at Las Vegas. That is a 2.2 average finish through five Chase races, the best anyone has managed since 2004. At Kansas he started on the pole and led 235 of 267 laps, which is as close to a blueprint for a 1.5-mile race as this season has produced. If you are checking Kyle Larson odds at Charlotte 2026 this weekend, that run is the number behind them.

The report card above shows the honest version too. Across thirteen intermediate starts in 2026 his average finish is 14.8, dragged down by wrecks at Texas, Chicagoland, and Indianapolis. But his median finish on those tracks is 5th, which tells you that when the No. 5 sees the checkered flag, it sees it up front. Add the 327 laps he led winning here in 2021 and the speed is clearly in the building. This is an informed prediction, not a guarantee, and Charlotte has produced nine different winners in ten tries for a reason.

Who Else Could Win?

The Charlotte NASCAR favorites behind Larson sort out like this. Denny Hamlin owns the best 1.5-mile average finish in the series this season at 4.6, won the 2022 Coca-Cola 600 here, and is the only driver within a race worth of points of the lead. Christopher Bell won the 600 in 2024 and carries an 8.0 average finish at Charlotte in the Next Gen era. Tyler Reddick led a race-high 119 laps here in May with a 9.5 career average at the track, which makes him the obvious name for anyone building NASCAR DFS picks for the Bank of America 400. Chase Briscoe is the hot hand after sweeping the stages at Las Vegas, with a 2.0 average across his last three intermediate starts.

The Bottom Line

Charlotte's oval gets its playoff date back after eight years away, with no elimination pressure, a surface that eats tires, and the hottest driver in the sport sitting on a 40-point cushion. Most NASCAR picks for Charlotte will land on the No. 5, and the Bank of America 400 predictions that do not are betting on this track's habit of surprising people. If Larson converts, the title fight is close to over.

Kyle Larson is my pick and the logical favorite, with two wins and three runner-up finishes in his last five starts and a 2.2 average finish through five Chase races.

Is Kyle Larson good at Charlotte Motor Speedway?

He won the 2021 Coca-Cola 600 from the pole and led 327 of 400 laps, but his last five oval starts there are uneven, with a 5th this May and crashes or trouble in 2023 and 2025.

What time does the Bank of America 400 start?

Coverage begins at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 11, 2026, with the green flag scheduled for roughly 3:19 p.m. ET.

What channel is the Bank of America 400 on?

USA Network, with radio coverage on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Is the Charlotte playoff race on the oval or the Roval in 2026?

The oval. NASCAR moved the fall Charlotte weekend back to the 1.5-mile oval for 2026, ending an eight-year run on the Roval road course.
